February 15, 2017 turned out to be a historic day for India. Indian Space Research Organization (IRSO) set a new world record of launching 104 satellite in one go. India surpassed the record set by Russia of launching 37 satellites in one go. Out of 104 satellites, only three satellites were Indian satellites. With this, India has emerged as the most reliable and cost-effective option for deploying satellites in orbit. Low-cost space exploration revolution has just begun and India is leading the revolution.
PSLV-C37 Project Director B Jayakumar said, "It was a complex mission to launch 104 satellites altogether, but out team came up with very good solutions. The mission was very enjoyable. All the 104 satellites have been successfully deployed in orbit. Till now, India has put 226 satellites, out of which, only 47 satellites are Indian satellites. Great moment for each and everyone of us." The first satellite to be deployed in orbit was India's high resolution Cartosat-2 to keep eyes on activities of neighbors at a resolution of less than one meter. Following which, India's other two satellites- INS-1A and INS-1B were deployed in orbit. Due to larger number of satellites, a unique separation approach was used. It took 12 minutes to separate all the 104 satellites. The complete mission lasted for 28 minutes. ISRO's VSSC director K Sivan regarded it as one of toughest missions they have handled. "It is a matter of national pride that the country has launched 104 satellites in one go using PSLV" he added.
Prime minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukharjee congratulated ISRO for successfully completing the mission. People across the globe reacted to this historic launch. Some of them were spicy and humorous as well:
