Call it patriotism or immature behavior, our reactions on a misleading news about Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel was describing us very well. Without even reading the whole news, many of the Indians started a war against Snapchat on social media. Media is equally to be blamed for using a misleading headline.
Anthony Pompliano, a former Snapchat employee alleged Evan for "not willing to expend the company in poor countries like Spain and India because the app is only for rich people" in court document. However, the company's legal team has described Anthony as "disgruntled employee". The employee is fighting a case against the company. What we Indians didn't realize was that these allegations were part of court document and may or may not be authentic. Anthony, the former employee served the company for mere three weeks and was fired for poor performance. It would be too quick and immature to react on the basis of a statement in a court document.
| Negative Reviews on Play Store |
The consequences of the episode can be seen on apps stores like Google Play Store, where thousand of negative reviews are being written by Indians to "show power of India". It won't be exaggerating to say that when it comes to national honor, Indians are way too emotional.
It would be rather wise to migrate this energy from rage to work. Let's work and increase per capita income of the country so that we will be no more under the category of "poor" countries. Jay Hind!
