Dalit card in presidential elections, BJP's masterstroke?

In the recent chaos about presidential elections, there have been interesting instances to observe. Narendra Modi, who is known for his great political understandings, has again played a masterstroke in the selection of their presidential candidate. Many of us were certain about Advani to be NDA's presidential candidate, but it was Modi who proved us wrong by declaring Ramnath Kovind as the presidential candidate.
Apparently, there has been a lot of analysis and planning involved behind this. Needless to say, Loksabha elections-2019 has certainly been in the center while choosing the presidential candidate. BJP is assumed to be a "Hindutava" party, but it has failed to gain votes of Dalit community. The reason being it's association with RSS. The newborn "Bhim Army" is the clear indication. With this move, BJP is expected to attract atleast some votes of the community.
But the real question lies here- Are we still playing caste-cards for political gains while we claim to move past cast-based politics on occasions? The opposition made the race as "Dalit-vs-Dalit" by declaring Meira Kumar as their presidential candidate. Although, it should be appreciated that a person from suppressed community has risen to be a presidential elections, and this is the power of democracy. But, we are creating an ill-illustration for the new generation unknowingly.  If you google Mr. Kovind, you will find this surprising suggestion:

And people do search for his caste. Ridiculous! For the time being, it seems that he is having a bright chance to be the president. This presidential term will be exemplary. Bhim Army, are you watching?
