Indian English news channel Times Now's Editor in Chief Arnab Goswami has resigned from the channel. As per the sources, the news is confirmed but no official statement has been made by Times Now. It happened in a recent editorial meeting which he attended through video conferencing from Mumbai. The career of aforesaid anchor has been controversial and some accuse him of favoring BJP on his news shows.
The reason behind his resignation is ambiguous. During the editorial conference, Arnab told his team that he believes in media and hence he will continue to be in television. As per The News Minute, Arnab called a meeting at 4:30 PM and it went on for 1 hour. He constantly kept saying in the meeting that the game is just begun and independent media will thrive in coming times. If we may interpret it, he is going to start his own venture.
Another news agency Janta ka Reporter claims the same as they have confirmed the news with Times Now journalists. Arnab may remain in charge till December. He joined Times Now in 2007 and led the channel to pinnacle within mere 1 year. Since then, he led Times Now to be Number 1 Indian English news channel for consecutive 8 years. Clearly, Arnab's resignation will leave a void in the channel. The Anchor was known for his bold and dominating style. He greatly contributed to the channel by exposing corruptions like CWG scam, 2G scam, the Kargil for Profit scam and lot more. He also anchored for more than 100 hours during 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
Earlier, some journalists (including Rajdeep sardesai, Barkha Dutta and Ravish Kumar) accused him of being a biased journalists. In a Facebook post, Barkha wrote, "Times Now calls for gagging of media and for journalists to be tried and punished. This man is journalist? I am ashamed to be from same industry as him". Last month, Arnab got Y-category security by government after receiving threats from Pak-based terrorist organization. It opened the debate and many questioned this move by the government.
Arnab hails from Assam and his father was an army officer. He began his career with The Telegraph and later, he joined NDTV. After serving there for few years, he then joined Times Now.
